Joe Denly has been ruled out of the remainder of England’s T20I series against New Zealand after sustaining ligament damage in his right ankle, the ECB stated on Saturday, November 2.

Denly suffered the injury during training on Thursday, on the eve of the first T20I in Christchurch, with ligament damage confirmed by scan results.

The 33-year-old is part of England’s Test squad for their two-match series against the Black Caps, which will begin on November 21.

“He will now start a rehabilitation programme and will be routinely assessed ahead of the two-match Test series against the Black Caps starting on November 21,” the ECB said.

England have opted not to call up a replacement for the four remaining T20Is at this stage.

With Denly missing out, Lewis Gregory made his debut in the first T20I, although he didn’t bat or bowl as England secured a seven-wicket victory.
