Jay Shah has been elected unopposed as the new ICC chair. Here is a list of his predecessors in the role.
Shah began his tenure as ICC chair on December 1. He succeeded Greg Barclay, who had held that position since 2020.
At 36, Shah was elected unopposed and is the youngest in the role. Before taking over from Barclay, he was the BCCI secretary and the president of the Asian Cricket Council. He also served as the chair of the ICC’s finance and commercial affairs committee.
Shah became the third Indian to serve as the ICC chair after N. Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar. Jagmohan Dalmiya and Sharad Pawar, having served as ICC presidents in the past before the position was dissolved in 2016, are the other Indians to have headed the apex body.
History of ICC office bearers
Lord Colin Cowdrey was the first ICC President, serving the position between 1989 and 1993. Notably, Cowdrey and Sir Clyde Walcott (1993-1997) have both served as the ICC chair, a position created amid the 2014 constitutional changes.
Following another constitutional reform in April 2016, Manohar became the first independently elected ICC chair until the 2018 annual conference.
Before David Richards was appointed as the chief executive in 1993, ICC was administered by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
