Uncapped seamer Jasprit Bumrah was picked for the first Test between South Africa and India, as Virat Kohli’s side left out Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav in Cape Town.

Their impressive battery of swing bowlers – led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami – were given first use of a juicy pitch after Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat.

Bumrah was selected in the Test squad for the first time for this three-match series, following fine displays in ODI and T20 cricket. He has won 28 ODI caps and 30 T20I caps, averaging 22.3 and 18.4 with the ball respectively.
