Japan will host the Sri Lanka Emerging squad for five T20 matches at the Sano International Cricket Ground, starting today (May 10) – here is the full schedule for the Japan vs Sri Lanka Emerging squad cricket series.
Japan have invited the Sri Lanka Emerging squad for a five-match T20 series. According to them, this series is aimed at helping them prepare for their upcoming regional qualifiers, and at promoting relations between the two countries.
Japan are one of the four teams who have qualified for the East Asia-Pacific T20 World Cup Regional Final, scheduled to be held in July 2023. This will serve as a qualifying tournament for the 2024 T20 World Cup in West Indies: the winner will qualify for the marquee event in the Caribbean Islands next year. The other three teams that will fight it out with Japan are the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, and Vanuatu.
Japan do not get a lot of opportunities to play against first-class teams or teams with first-class cricketers. They expect this series against the Sri Lanka Emerging squad will put them in good stead ahead of the EAP Regional Final. All five matches will be played at the same venue – the Sano International Cricket Ground and will be broadcast live on the Japanese Cricket Association’s Youtube channel and on FanCode in select countries.
The first match, played today (May 10), has ended with Sri Lanka Emerging squad winning the game by five wickets.
