James Vince is set to join Sydney Sixers for the rest of their Big Bash League campaign, coming in as a replacement for Joe Denly.
Vince’s first match will be against Perth Scorchers on Sunday, January 13. Moises Henriques, the Sixers captain, looked forward to the team benefitting from Vince’s ‘hunger’ for runs while Denly returned home to England to prepare for the tour of West Indies after a match-winning 76* in his last game with the Sixers.
“James has been a great performer in the domestic T20s in England and come out to Australia before and performed well,” Henriques told Sydney Morning Herald. “We like what he has to offer as a person as well. He seems a really nice fella, and he’s a nice replacement of Joe Denly, who was equally as nice.

“The only difference is Joe offered some part-time leggies while Vince is a jet in the field and keen to prove a point as well after being left out of a couple of [England] teams. We’ve picked a person who is hungry for runs, which fits what we’re about.”

Vince, the Hampshire captain, who has turned out for Sydney Thunder twice, had been playing for Auckland Aces in New Zealand’s 20-over Super Smash when the BBL call came. “I’m extremely excited about joining up with the Sixers,” he said in a statement. “The guys are playing some great cricket at the minute and are in a strong position heading into the second half of the tournament.”
Vince will link up with fellow Englishman Tom Curran at Sixers. Henriques was all praise for Curran as well, with the bowler joint second on the wickets chart with 11 from seven games at an average of 15.72 and economy of 6.92. “Tommy Curran’s bowling at the death is having a positive impact on Benny [Dwarshuis] and Sean [Abbot] at the death and they’re becoming clutch bowlers,” the captain added.
