Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has taken a shot at Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistan all-rounder, seemingly in response to a passage from Afridi’s book published last year.
In his book Game Changer, Afridi says Gambhir had an “attitude problem”, that he has “no records” and was “barely a character in the great scheme of cricket”.
Gambhir’s response on Twitter on Saturday, in which he said Afridi couldn’t remember his own age, was seemingly a comeback to that. “Someone who doesn’t remember his age how will he remember my records! ok [sic],” Gambhir tweeted.

Gambhir was referring to the final of the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, when his half-century helped India win the title. A couple of months after that, the two players had a heated on-field clash during the third ODI of Pakistan’s tour of India in Kanpur.

Words were exchanged when Gambhir hit Afridi for a four, and they collided on the field when the Indian opener ran for a single on the next ball.
Umpire Ian Gould had to intervene and separate the players, with both Afridi and Gambhir coming in for hefty fines from the ICC after the match.
