Rajasthan Royals have hired New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi as a spin-bowling consultant and operations executive for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The 27-year-old had made eight appearances for the franchise across the last two editions of the IPL and while his record is impressive – his economy rate in the competition is a lowly 6.69 runs per over – Sodhi was released last year before going unsold at the 2020 IPL auction.
Sodhi will work alongside former India all-rounder and current Royals spin bowling coach, Sairaj Bahutule. As well as working with Royals’ spin bowlers, Sodhi has also been brought in to assist with the operations side of the franchise.

Commenting on his new dual role, Sodhi said: “I am delighted to be taking on this new challenge at Rajasthan Royals with this dual role. Having played for two seasons for the Royals, I have formed a great level of understanding with all the people involved with the franchise, and they have always been very supportive of me. Therefore, I did not have to think twice when this opportunity was offered to me by the Royals’ management. I love this franchise and want to help us win the IPL this year.

“It is a fascinating opportunity for me, to be involved in the coaching staff at such a young age, while also supporting and learning about the operations of the business. I am very much looking forward to developing my coaching skills alongside Sairaj and learning from Jake [Lush McCrum] on business operations.”
