Ireland will enter the opener on the back of a 2-0 T20I defeat to South Africa at Bristol. Afghanistan’s last assignment was in June when they swept their T20I series against Zimbabwe to secure a 3-0 win.

Both sides will look to continue their preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. While Ireland will take part in the first round, Afghanistan are already through to the Super 12 stage and in the same group as Australia, England and New Zealand.

The last time these two sides met in a T20I series was in March 2020, when Afghanistan secured a 2-1 win in India. The final match saw Ireland triumph in a Super Over to secure a consolation win.

All five T20Is will be held at Stormont in Belfast.
