Laura Delany has been named in Ed Joyce’s first Ireland Women’s squad just four weeks after suffering a fractured ankle.

The Ireland captain will lead the side into July’s series against Zimbabwe which comprise three 50-over matches and three T20 internationals.

Delany was bowling in the first of three T20 games against West Indies last month when a Shemaine Campbelle drive hit her ankle, ruling her out of the remaining two games. All three were won by West Indies.

“I’m really happy with my recovery and rehabilitation process. Everything is on track for a speedy recovery and I’m confident that I will be back in time for the first match against Zimbabwe on July 3.

“The West Indies series was always going to be a tough ask, as it was our first series as a new squad. We have been working hard since that series and are really looking forward to the contest between ourselves and Zimbabwe.”
