Ajinkya Rahane, who played the 2023 World Test Championship final for India, will lead Mumbai in the 2024 Irani Cup

The 2024 Irani Cup will be played in the first week of October. Here are the squads for the competition, including full team lists and injury updates.

Which teams will play Irani Cup 2024?

The Irani Cup is played between the winners of the previous season of the Ranji Trophy and the Rest of India team picked by BCCI. Mumbai, on account of winning the 2023/24 Ranji Trophy, will face the Rest of India in the 2024 Irani Cup.

The 2024 Irani Cup will be played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, between October 1 and 5. This will be the second first-class tournament of the season in India after the Duleep Trophy, which concluded recently, with India A ending up victorious.

Irani Cup 2024: Team news

Mumbai have announced a formidable squad captained by Ajinkya Rahane, with Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan among the key inclusions. Shardul Thakur has returned after undergoing foot surgery in June. Musheer Khan will miss the match after being involved in a road accident.

The ROI squad will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad with Abhimanyu Easwaran as his deputy. Both Gaikwad and Easwaran were part of the recently-concluded Duleep Trophy. Gaikwad captained runners-up India C, while the season's second-highest run-scorer Easwaran led India B.

Ishan Kishan, who lost his BCCI central contract last year, has been added to the team after his centuries in the Buchi Babu tournament and the Duleep Trophy on red-ball comeback. The team also has a wicketkeeping backup in Dhruv Jurel. Yash Dayal, who recently earned his maiden India call-up for India’s Test series against Bangladesh also features in the side.
