The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has picked the Rest of India squad for the 2024 Irani Cup to be played against Mumbai, the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy Champions. Here’s the full team.
The committee led by chief selector Ajit Agarkar has named Ruturaj Gaikwad as the captain of the ROI squad with Abhimanyu Easwaran as his deputy. Both Gaikwad and Easwaran were part of the recently-concluded Duleep Trophy. Gaikwad captained runners-up India C, while the season's second-highest run-scorer Easwaran led India B.
Apart from the two, Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal are some top-order batting options for the side.
Ishan Kishan, omitted from BCCI's central contract last year, has been included in the team after slamming hundreds on his red-ball comeback in the Buchi Babu tournament and the Duleep Trophy. Kishan will have Dhruv Jurel as another wicketkeeping option in the squad. Yash Dayal, who earned his maiden Test call-up against Bangladesh has also been named.
Sri Lanka are currently third in the World Test Championship standings, behind India and Australia.

Jurel and Dayal's participation subject to availability
However, both Jurel and Dayal's participation is subject to them not being included in India's second Test against Bangladesh, starting September 27, revealed a BCCI release.
Prasidh Krishna, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed form a strong pace attack, while Manav Suthar and Rahul Chahar are expected to lead the spin arsenal.
Sarfaraz Khan, part of India's Bangladesh Test series, will be released to represent the Mumbai team if he is not going to be part of the India XI.
The match will be held at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow between October 1 and 5.
