Shaun Marsh’s county stint with Glamorgan has been cut short by ligament and joint damage and he will now return to his native Australia.

The Australia batsman fell awkwardly during the T20 Blast game against Sussex in Cardiff, where he called for the medical staff immediately.

“Marchant was one of our best bowlers in the T20 competition last year and is an inspirational character in the dressing room. However, we have a strong bowling line-up and I’m sure we will be able to fill that gap with the players we have available.”

Marsh, whose good form in the 2017-18 Ashes – where he compiled 445 runs – could not be backed up in the four-Test series in South Africa, will now strive to be fit for Australia’s Test series against Pakistan in the UAE in October.
