It brings an end to a period that has seen lesser known brands such as MPL and Killer Jeans as India’s kit manufactures after their deal with Nike ended in late 2020. The deal with Adidas is set to last five years and it will see the German company oversee the production of the playing kit for India sides at all levels.

Commenting on the deal, Bjørn Gulden, Adidas CEO, said: “We are proud to partner with BCCI and Team India, the most iconic team in India. Cricket is the most important sport in India and it is very important for us to be visible and invest in it.”

The Adidas-produced kit will see the iconic Adidas logo printed on the right hand side of the shirt, mirroring the location of the BCCI logo on the left. The white-ball kits are slightly different shades of blue, and both contain orange rings on the extremities of the sleeves.

The Test kit is the most interesting design, with blue lines appearing across the shoulders in a way that has already drawn comparisons to the Spanish football team Real Madrid’s kits of years gone by. Adidas have long been Real Madrid’s kit manufacturers, doing so for every year since 1998 making it one of the leading manufacturer-team combinations in sport.

India will first wear their new Adidas-produced kit at the World Test Championship final at the Kia Oval, which begins in London from June 7, 2023. India will be looking to go one better than their 2019-2021 World Test Championship campaign, where they finished as runners up after losing to New Zealand in a final at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
