Injury continues to sideline regular skipper Dane van Niekerk and experienced all-rounder Chloe Tyron from South Africa women’s squad, as the duo miss out on the limited-overs tour of India – SA’s second international assignment this year after Covid-19.

While this will be India’s first international game since the women’s T20 World Cup in March 2020, South Africa come to the tour on the back of a successful run against Pakistan at home. They played three ODIs and as many T20Is against them, winning all games but one.

South Africa have retained the same squad for the India tour, albeit one change: alongside their skipper and Tyron, they will also miss Masabata Klaas on the India tour, who had to drop out at the last minute due to injury. All-rounder Sune Luus will continue to lead the side.

“It is really exciting to finally have this tour confirmed and announce our squad that will do duty here in India,” said Hilton Moreeng, the South Africa women’s head coach.

“We are looking forward to getting out there to see our ladies prove themselves under different playing conditions. India is always a wonderful place to tour and we are looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.”

India and South Africa have faced off in 22 ODIs, with India leading the head-to-head 14-7. They also have the upper hand in T20Is, winning seven out of nine encounters against the Proteas.

The teams will face off in eight games on the tour, which include five ODIs and three T20Is. They will all be played at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana International Stadium in Lucknow. The tour begins with the first ODI on March 7, 2021.
