England’s batting method, that proved to be a roaring success in the 2019 World Cup in their backyard, came under scrutiny in the first game after a really good start went to waste following a middle-order collapse. India, on the other hand, showed strength with their top-order batting yet again, but could be without a further two players for the second game of the series. India beat England, the No.1 ranked team on ICC ODI team rankings, after three successive losses against them before this. Can they get one more win under the belt to seal the series?

Pitch conditions

The surface at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium is generally good for batting and it’s likely that the trend from the first game will be maintained for the second with another high-scoring match expected.

Weather forecast

The temperature is expected to be around 37°C on Friday with 14 per cent humidity. We are unlikely to be interrupted by weather.

India v England 2nd T20I: Team news

India

India will be without Shreyas Iyer for the second and third ODI which could open up room for a debut for Suryakumar Yadav. Rishabh Pant, who remained on the bench in the first game, could come in too. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, who was hit on the elbow last game could also sit this game out. Shubman Gill might step in for him, with KL Rahul, who excelled in the last game, continuing in his middle-order role.

England

England struggled for impact from their middle-order in the T20Is and again in the first ODI. They are unlikely to tinker with their approach though, as Eoin Morgan explained after the previous game. But they will have to do it without the skipper himself who will be absent due to an injury. Sam Billings will also miss out for the second ODI. Liam Livingstone will make his ODI debut for the second ODI. Jos Buttler will captain the side in Morgan’s absence. Left-arm quick Reece Topley and leg-spinner Matt Parkinson could also make their first appearances of the tour. Dawid Malan, who has been drafted in as cover, could also feature.

India v England Dream 11 fantasy team

Virat Kohli and Ben Stokes are once again the big guns you should back in your fantasy team, but we also think you could bank on Jos Buttler and Suryakumar Yadav if he plays. A good left-field pick can be the uncanny Shardul Thakur who has been amongst the wicket.
