The Indian Women’s cricket team were unable to clinch the T20I series against England as they lost 1-2 despite putting up a fight in the last two games. There were a number of breathtaking moments, however, from the Indian camp through the three matches, and we take a look at the player ratings for the away team.
Shafali Verma: 3/10
48 runs @ 16; SR: 114.28
The youngster looked in excellent touch in the second T20I, where she even smashed five successive fours off Katherine Brunt. However, her fielding and running between the wickets needs massive improvement, while she also needs to work on putting a prize on her wicket.
Smriti Mandhana: 8/10
119 runs @ 39.66; SR: 141.66
Mandhana was back in form as she set up the innings for India through the series. Her 70 off 51 in the third game allowed India to reach a competitive total, and she ended as the team’s leading run-getter in the series.
Harleen Deol: 3/10
23 runs @ 23; SR: 67.64
Besides that sensational catch, which the world is still talking about, Harleen was unable to perform with the bat as she could only score 23 runs, a ta pretty low strike-rate. while batting at number three. She was troubled against pace, and will need to work hard on her game ahead of the next series.
Harmanpreet Kaur: 6/10
68 runs @ 22.66; SR: 128.30
Though the skipper did not get a big score, she showed signs of coming back to form. She blazed her way to a crucial 36 off 26 in the last T20I, and had scored 31 off 25 in the second game as well. She also took an outstanding catch in the series.
Richa Ghosh: 4/10
28 runs @ 14; SR: 127.27
Yet another teenager in the side, Richa Ghosh has impressed with her big-hitting skills, which was on display in the last game. Scoring 20 off 13 while batting at six, Ghosh gave proof of her fearlessness, but consistency is something that she will need to work on.
Sneh Rana: 3/10
12 runs @ 12; SR: 92.30
1 wicket @ 62; ER: 6.88
Rana, who was the star of the Test match, was not able to replicate her showing in the T20Is, as she scored only 12 runs across two innings. She did score eight off five in the second game, which turned out to be match-winning in the end.
Deepti Sharma: 4/10
37 runs; SR: 86.04
2 wickets @ 42.50; ER: 7.28
The all-rounder was not at her fluent best with the bat, and struggled to score at run-a-ball 24 in the second game. She was unable to curtail runs in the middle overs as well, but did bowl a tight over in the second game that India won, when England needed 24 off the last three overs.
Arundhati Reddy: 1/10
1 wicket @ 67; ER: 9.57
The head coach spoke of increasing the fast bowling resources for India in the future, which indirectly hints at the poor series that Arundhati Reddy had. Reddy opened the bowling in all three games but was not asked to complete her quota in any match. She bowled just a single over in the last T20I, which indicates the indifferent run she had.
Shikha Pandey: 4/10
3 wickets @ 22; ER: 7.33
With Reddy leaking runs at the other end, the onus was on Pandey to keep things tight, something she did fairly well. She was particularly impressive in the first game, where she troubled the openers with her line and length, conceding 22 runs in her 4 overs.
Poonam Yadav: 5/10
3 wickets @ 27; ER: 6.75
The go-to player for India over the last few seasons, Poonam Yadav bowled a tight spell in the second game in the death, which allowed the side to win the match. She was the most economical bowler for India in the series.
Radha Yadav: 1/10
1 wicket @ 87; ER: 9.66
The spinner picked up a wicket in the first game, which was the 27th consecutive innings where she returned with at least one scalp. However, she was unable to add to her feat in the next two games and proved to be expensive as well.
