India closed on 11-1 having dismissed Sri Lanka for 205 on the first day of the second Test in Nagpur.
After a battling 1 from Dimuth Karunaratne and a 58-ball 9 from Lahiru Thirimanne, Sri Lanka doggedly fought their way to 159-4 at tea but collapsed in the final session, with Ishant Sharma (3-37), Ravi Ashwin (4-67) and Ravi Jadeja (3-56) doing the damage.
Captain Dinesh Chandimal fell to Ashwin after a 122-ball 57 as Sri Lanka were seen off inside 80 overs.
In reply India had eight overs to bat as the light drew in, time enough for KL Rahul to lose his wicket – a chop-on – to Lahiru Gamage.
The rain-affected first Test in Kolkata ended in a draw.
