India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has re-signed for Northamptonshire for a significant chunk of the 2025 county season, following a successful stint with the club last year.
Chahal will return to Northants from June following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League until the end of the season, and will be available for all the club's fixtures across the County Championship and One Day Cup in that time.
The 34-year-old played for the club in 2023, playing four County Championship matches in the backend of the season. He took 19 wickets across those games and took two five-fors at an average of 21.10, including a career-best first-class performance of 9-99 against Derbyshire. One of his most memorable performances was on club debut in the One Day Cup, where Northants were facing a club Chahal had previously represented, Kent. Chahal returned figures of 5-14 off 10 overs in a nine-wicket win for Northants.

In a statement released by Northants, Chahal said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time here last season so I’m very happy to be coming back. There are some great people in that dressing room, and I can’t wait to be part of that again.
“We played some great cricket towards the back end of the season so hopefully we’re able to replicate that and big up some victories.”
Northants coach Darren Lehmann said: “I’m really excited that one of best leg-spinners in the world is returning to Northamptonshire this season. He brings invaluable experience and he’s an absolute gentleman who loves the game. Having him available from mid-June until the end of the season will be fantastic for us.”
Chahal has played 152 white-ball matches for India, the last of which came in a T20I series against West Indies in August 2023. He has also played 160 matches in the IPL, and is the leading wicket-taker in the history of the competition, having taken 205 wickets going into the 2025 edition.
