The second leg of New Zealand’s white-ball tour of India – the two teams have got very used to one another – after India also toured New Zealand in white-ball cricket, just two months ago in November. A series that India won one-nil after one T20I was abandoned, one was won by India thanks to a Suryakumar Yadav masterclass and the third and final T20I was tied.
In all, New Zealand and India have played 24 T20Is against one another with New Zealand winning nine matches compared to India’s 10. Three of their encounters have been tied, including consecutive fixtures in 2020, and two have been abandoned.
The two teams are currently in the midst of a three-match ODI series which started with a classic encounter as Shubman Gill scored a double-hundred before a Michael Bracewell-inspired New Zealand came within 12 runs of an improbable victory with the off-spinning all-rounder scoring 140 off 78 balls.
The series will be the last white-ball action for New Zealand as they then host England for two Tests in February that will be captained by Tim Southee. The matches are not part of the World Test Championship.
India, meanwhile, will host Australia in an eagerly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series with four matches to be played across February and into March.
