Harvansh Singh Pangalia,17, scored a blazing hundred to put India Under-19 in the driver’s seat on day two of the second youth Test against Australia Under-19 in Chennai.
India resumed on their overnight score of 316-5, with captain Soham Patwardhan (61) and Harvansh Pangalia (7) at the crease. Patwardhan fell after adding just two runs more to his tally after he was bowled by Ollie Patterson. Mohamed Enaan, coming in at eight, chipped in with a 38-ball 26 before falling to Christian Howe off the last ball off the 105th over. The dismissal brought an end to a 76-ball stand with Pangalia, with India at 373-7.
No.9 Samarth N contributed with valuable lower-order runs, hitting two sixes and a four. His innings eventually ended on 20 off 38 after Simon Budge held onto a catch off Lachan Ranaldo. The hosts slipped from 402-7 to 402-9 in the space of three balls as Chetan Sharma departed without opening his account.
Thereafter, Pangalia teed off, scoring 117 off 143 with seven fours and six sixes. He shared a 107-ball 90-run partnership for the last wicket with Anmoljeet (11*), scoring the lion’s share of runs (72). India managed 492 on the board before being all out in the 134th over.
In response, Australia dealt with early blows, losing the first three wickets for 42 runs. Enaan picked up Riley Kingsell (4) and Steve Hogan (11), while Anmoljeet clean bowled Budge for five. Captain Ollie Peake (62*) and Alex Lee Young (45*) rescued the innings in an unbeaten century stand to make sure the visitors ended the day without further hiccups, at 142-3.
