Afghanistan opening batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz has achieved his highest-ever rating in the ICC's updated men's ODI batting rankings, and broken into the top ten.
Gurbaz scored his eighth ODI century earlier this month in the final match of Afghanistan's series against Bangladesh in Sharjah. He hit 101 off 120 in a chase of 246, Afghanistan eventually reaching their target with 10 balls and five wickets to spare. That win sealed the series for Afghanistan, ensuring them a win in their third ODI series in a row following victories over Ireland and South Africa in the format. Still only 22 years old, Gurbaz now sits in seventh place in the ICC ODI batting rankings, just ahead of Pathum Nissanka and below Daryl Mitchell.
Babar Azam retains his comfortable margin at the top of the rankings list, 60 points ahead of Rohit Sharma in second place. Babar made scores of 37, 15* and 28* in Pakistan's recent ODI series in Australia, although his rating has fallen down to 825 from the 898 it was at its highest point in 2022.
Elsewhere, Shaheen Shah Afridi retook his spot at the top of the bowling rankings in last week's update, and is now at his highest-ever rating of 696. Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana has also achieved his highest-ever rating and broken into the top ten. He moves up to sixth place in the rankings following his impressive series against New Zealand where he took five wickets across the three-match series.
Theekshana's ascension means that Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj have both slid down a place in the rankings, but remain in the top 10.
There's also movement in the ODI allrounder rankings, with Azmatullah Omarzai moving up to joint-eighth place alongside Mitchell Santner. Oman's Zeeshan Maqsood also moves up a place and into the top 10.
