David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd has revealed how he tweaked the commentators line-up so that Ravi Shastri was calling Yuvraj Singh’s famous six-sixes over against England in the T20 World Cup 2007.
Lloyd was speaking on an episode of theSky Sports Cricket Podcast in which he, Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton, along with host Rob Key, were attempting to decide on the 10 greatest cricketing moments of the last three decades.
Unsurprisingly, the time when Yuvraj tonked a Stuart Broad over for 36 runs, hitting six consecutive sixes, was part of the conversation, and it prompted memories of the time Lloyd turned production expert.

It was Key who brought it up. “We did a thing with Ravi Shastri earlier on, and he said – you may not remember this, Bumble – but you actually … not changed the comm rota, but you said, ‘Ravi, you should be on now towards the end of this innings.’ Is that right?”
“That’s right,” said Lloyd. “You know sometimes, these producers haven’t a clue when they’re doing those comm rotas! So I just switched it slightly.”
Bumble’s judgement was the right one, as Shastri sound-tracked that seminal moment expertly. “[He was] absolutely brilliant, Ravi was all over it,” said Lloyd. “It was terrific. Broady was going around the park, and that batting … Yuvraj was just flicking it. Just a little flick, and off it went. Brilliant.”
