Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg has revealed how he once declared former India captain Sourav Ganguly his “bunny” in Test cricket mid-air during a domestic flight in India.
Hogg, who played just seven Tests, dismissed Ganguly five times in four games, the most he managed to dismiss a single batsman in his Test career.
“He is my bunny in Test cricket,” Hogg told host Raunak Kapoor on the Instagram Live show Beyond The Field. “My biggest dismissal, my first dismissal in Test cricket.”
When asked by the host if he ever had a chance to call the Indian batsman his bunny in person, Hogg narrated the time he managed to pass on the message to Ganguly, now the BCCI president, mid-air on a flight.
“We are in a flight,” Hogg said, “I think it was from Chandigarh to Delhi, or might have been Mumbai. I was sitting in the cattle class that is economy class at the back, and he was sitting in the shed… (Raunak interrupts.. says “cockpit” to imply first-class seats).

“I got the hostess to give me a paper and pen and I said ‘I think they’ve got it the wrong way here, what’s it like, I hope my bunny at the front he’s enjoying his barn as best as he can.'”
Banter aside, Hogg said that Ganguly has been a tremendous influence on Indian cricket, remarking at his ability to understand both the intricacies of the sport, as well as the business of it.
“He is such a wonderful component of Indian cricket, he’s just turned it around,” Hogg said.
