Vaibhav Suryavanshi in action during the first youth Test between India U19 and Australia U19 in Chennai

Highlights: 13-year-old India Under-19 opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed a blazing hundred against Australia Under-19 in the first unofficial youth Test in Chennai.

After opting to bat, Australia were off to a steady start before Aditya Singh pinned opener Steve Hogan lbw for 15, with their score at 39-1.

No. 3 batter Ollie Peake joined hands with Riley Kingsell to put together a 57-run stand before being dismissed by Soham Pathwardhan for 29. Peake’s dismissal reduced Australia to 96-2, after which a cluster of wickets fell quickly, with them slipping to 152-6.

Thereafter, No.8 Aidan O’Connor and Christian Howe put on a lower-order resistance in a 98-run stand, stretching the visitors’ total to 293. O’Connor (61 off 70) was the top-scorer for Australia. His innings was studded with seven fours and two sixes. Samarth Nagaraj (3-49) and spinner Mohamed Enaan (3-48) were the pick of the India bowlers.

13-year-old Suryavanshi unleashes mayhem

In response, India teed off from the word go, spearheaded by 13-year-old Suryavanshi’s unbeaten 81 off 47 balls. Last year, he made his Ranji Trophy debut at the reported age of 12. India made 103 in 14 overs by stumps on day one, courtesy of Suryavanshi's blitzkrieg.

On the next morning, Suryavanshi brought up his 100 off 58 balls. His innings eventually ended on 104 off 62, including 14 fours and four sixes. This is the fastest Youth Test hundred by an Indian batter and the second quickest overall. Moeen Ali's 56-ball 100 against Sri Lanka in 2005 still tops the chart.
