Pakistan’s 36-run win in Johannesburg last Sunday (December 22) which took them to a historic 3-0 series whitewash was the final men’s ODI of 2024. Here’s the list of players with the most runs in the format this year.
With the cricketing calendar becoming more and more cramped, the relevance of ODI cricket has started to fade. Since the year also saw a T20 World Cup, fewer ODIs were played across the nations.
In 2024, Sri Lanka have played the most number of matches (18) in the format. That three of their cricketers – Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka – featuring in the top three on the run-scorers list is not surprising.
Against Afghanistan in February, Nissanka etched his name into history with a double-hundred in Pallekele, becoming the first Sri Lanka batter to reach the milestone. That was also the highest score this year by a batter.
Sri Lanka have won 12 out of their 18 matches, maintaining a record win/loss ratio of four, including a first series win against India in 27 years.
After a sensational all-round ODI series against South Africa, Saim Ayub has made massive jumps in the ICC ODI charts 💪

Canada's Harsh Thaker, ranked fourth and the USA's Monank Patel, ranked 10th, are the only players in the top 10 from Associate Members. Notably, Canada and the USA have played the third- (15) and fourth-most (12) matches respectively.
At the flip side are India and New Zealand, who have played three each, the fewest among Full Members. It explains why no player from either side features on the list. They are also the only teams to finish the year without a win.
