
On Sunday (March 9), Bangladesh opener Mohammad Naim Sheikh smashed a career-high 176 to lift his domestic side to the highest-ever List A total in Bangladesh.
In the third round of the 2024-25 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, Prime Bank Cricket Club and Brothers Union faced off at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Batting first, Prime Bank got off to a solid start with openers Mohammad Naim Sheikh and Sabbir Hosan both cracking half-centuries, and putting on 140 in double-quick time. Sabbir was the first to depart, caught off the bowling of Sohag Gazi in the 19th over, for 73.

Naim carried on in the company of skipper Zakir Hasan, getting to the three-figure mark by sweeping Gazi for four in the 29th over. It came off 82 balls, and was his ninth List A century. The opener has played one Test, eight ODIs and 35 T20Is, but has not represented Bangladesh since September 2023.

He then stepped on the accelerator, getting to 150 in 106 balls – 49 runs off his last 24 balls, even as Zakir and then Shahadat Hossain departed in quick succession. By the time Naim was dismissed in the 39th over, his side had scored 310 and he had made his way to 176 off just 125 deliveries; the joint-fourth highest score in the competition's history.
Prime Bank record highest-ever List A total in Bangladesh
In the same over, Shamim Hossain was also dismissed to leave Prime Bank 312-5 in 39 overs. Abdulla Al Mamun and Sazzadul Haque Ripon then began to tee off, putting on 84 runs for the sixth wicket off 51 balls. Al Mamun then departed for 40 off 22, but Sazzadul went on to remain unbeaten on 50 off 37 balls, taking the team to a mammoth 422-8 – the highest List A total ever scored in Bangladesh.

The previous record was 409-8, scored by India against Bangladesh in an ODI in December 2022. On that occasion, Ishan Kishan hit a double century. Overall, 422-8 ranks joint-38th among the highest List A totals.
