India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has opened up on one of the most memorable moments of his career so far – the final over of India’s T20 World Cup 2016 clash against Bangladesh in Bengaluru.
With India’s hopes of staying in the tournament hanging in the balance, Pandya was handed the ball by then-captain MS Dhoni for the final over, with Bangladesh needing 11 runs to win.

After Mahmudullah took a single off the first ball, Mushfiqur Rahim sent the next two deliveries to the boundary, bringing the equation down to two off three. After the second of those fours, Rahim infamously celebrated prematurely. He fell on the next ball, trying to pull a short one over deep mid-wicket.
“I’ll be honest, I didn’t think what happened was possible,” he told Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz. “Even at that time, I thought if I was there, I would have taken a single and secured a win. And then I’d have gone for the signature shot to finish it with a six and all of that.
“I was thinking which is the most difficult ball if someone wants to take a single. So I thought back of the length is something where it’d be difficult if you want to hit, and similarly, it isn’t easy to take a single on it as well. You have to play it well to get a run out of it. But he went for a big shot and that is why he got out.”
India went on to win the match by a run, after Mahmudullah was dismissed on the very next ball attempting a slog, and Mustafizur Rahman was run out off the final delivery as Bangladesh attempted to run a bye.
