Former South Africa cricketer Gulam Bodi has been sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in their domestic spot-fixing case in 2015.
The 40-year-old will be the first player to be imprisoned under the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act of 2004, which was established after Hansie Cronje’s match-fixing scandal of 2001. He is set to appeal the case and request for an extension of bail.

Bodi handed himself over to the police in November 2018 and plead guilty on eight charges of corruption. He was scheduled to be sentenced in January this year, but was delayed due to a reported lack of legal finances at his end.
[breakout id=”0″][/breakout] Bodi represented South Africa in just two ODIs and a solitary T20I back in 2007, but was a prominent figure in their domestic circuit.
Across 11 years of competitive cricket, he scored over 10,900 runs and picked up 103 wickets. He was banned by Cricket South Africa for 20 years after he was accused of trying to influence results at the 2015 RamSlam T20 domestic tournament.
