Gloucestershire’s George Hankins has been charged with drink-driving following a car crash in Surrey.

According to the BBC, Hankins – who has been based in Surrey during the national lockdown – was arrested after the crash on Portsmouth Road, Cobham, on April 19 and is due to appear at Guildford Magistrates’ Court in July.

A photograph taken at the scene of the incident shows a car with Hankins’ name on the door and Gloucestershire’s club crest next to it, with the airbags having been deployed.

A statement from Gloucestershire said: “Gloucestershire Cricket has been made aware of an incident – being investigated by Surrey Police – regarding one of its players, who has been based in Surrey during the Covid-19 lockdown period. The club is in touch with the player concerned and has initiated a full internal investigation.

“As this is a police matter, the club will not be commenting further at the present time.”

Hankins, 23, made his debut for Gloucestershire in 2016 and has made 49 first-team appearances for the county across formats.
