Former India opener Chetan Chauhan has died at the age of 73.
Chauhan played 40 Tests for India in an international career that spanned from 1969 to 1981 and included 16 half-centuries, with a high score of 97.
He spent much of his Test career opening the batting with Sunil Gavaskar, with the pair putting on 3,010 runs together up top and averaging 53.75; only the combination of Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have been more prolific at the top of the order for India.
In his post-playing career he was twice elected as a member of parliament and managed India on their infamous tour of Australia in 2007/08. At the time of his death, he was a cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government.
