Former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming and ex-Yorkshire player Salliann Briggs have been named head coaches of the men’s and women’s Nottingham-based teams in The Hundred respectively.
Fleming, 46, captained Nottinghamshire to the County Championship title in 2005. He has also successfully coached the Chennai Super Kings to three titles (2010, 2011, 2018) in the Indian Premier League.
The New Zealander, who made 396 international appearances for his country, expressed his delight at his Nottingham return and is looking forward to working with his assistant coaches, who will be announced soon. Fleming said. “It was a special part of my career and it allowed me to fall back in love with the game. My memories with Nottingham and Trent Bridge are outstanding.

“You really have to be on your game from the first pick in the [player] draft and make sure you get players that represent what you stand for and how you want to play. Having local coaches is a massive part of that, working with our three counties, to tap into their knowledge of the players.”
Briggs, meanwhile, coached Loughborough Lightning from 2016 to 2018 and led the team to the 2016 Women’s Cricket Super League final. She currently coaches Hobart Hurricanes in the Women’s Big Bash League in Australia.

“It’s a great opportunity and I’m really looking forward to getting started and building the team,” she said. “When The Hundred was first announced I was struck by how it was different from the IPL and the Big Bash and I thought it was a great idea to create something different from those tournaments, rather than attempt to compete with them.”
Reports suggest that the Nottingham-based team will be called Trent Rockets. The men’s player draft for The Hundred is set to take place on Sunday, October 20.
