Former New Zealand batting all-rounder Rob Nicol has retired from all forms of cricket.

The 35-year-old made the announcement on Saturday, June 9, posting a picture on Twitter of caps of the different teams he has represented over the years, and simply saying: “Finished”.

Nicol, a top-order batsman and seam bowler, represented New Zealand in 45 international matches, two of which were Tests, between 2011 and 2013.

The highlight of his international stint was, perhaps, on ODI debut in Harare against Zimbabwe, when he scored a 131-ball 108*. He also represented New Zealand in the 2010 and 2012 World T20s.

Nicol ended with 941 runs from 44 international innings, and 15 wickets.

He was, however, best known as a domestic stalwart. He began his career at Auckland, where he spent eight seasons before shifting to Canterbury in 2009-10. Five seasons later, he returned home to Auckland, and finally wrapped up with Otago in the latest edition of the Plunket Shield.

He even captained Auckland to the T20 championship title in December 2015, and has played over 100 matches in each format since starting out in the 2001-02 season.

In 130 first-class matches, he scored 6319 runs and picked up 43 wickets. In 151 List A matches, he has 4717 runs and 96 wickets, and 2712 runs and 69 wickets in 122 T20Is.
