Here’s the list of the quickest to the landmark of 1,000 Test runs from each team.

Saud Shakeel recently became the joint-fastest batter from Pakistan to score 1,000 Test runs, achieving the feat in 20 innings — here’s the list of the quickest to the landmark from each team.

Over the years, only a handful of players have left their mark in the longest format almost immediately after making their Test debuts. Transitioning to play Test cricket is arguably the biggest challenge for a batter and navigating through them to leave a mark is no easy task.

Here are the batters who impressed in their first few games and became the quickest to 1,000 Test runs for their respective countries.

Fastest to 1,000 runs in Tests from each country

England - Herbert Sutcliffe (12 innings)

Sutcliffe achieved the feat in just 12 innings back in 1925, when he got to the landmark during the Melbourne Test against Australia.

West Indies - Everton Weekes (12 innings)

Weekes is the joint-fastest batter to 1,000 Test runs, getting to the landmark in just his 12th innings in 1949.

Australia - Don Bradman (13 innings)

Yet another record held by Bradman, who is Australia’s fastest batter to 1,000 runs in only 13 innings.

India - Vinod Kambli (14 innings)

Kambli, one of the most promising talents, had a spectacular rise in international cricket but his downfall was quicker as he played only seven more innings after getting to 1,000 runs in his 14th.

South Africa - Graeme Smith (17 innings)

Smith remains South Africa’s fastest batter to 1,000 Test runs by innings and got to the landmark in 2003 against England at Lord’s.

New Zealand - Devon Conway (19 innings)

Conway broke New Zealand’s 37-year-old record by becoming the fastest to 1,000 Test runs in 2022. He scored his 1,000th run against Pakistan in 2022 in just 19 innings.

Pakistan - Saeed Ahmed and Saud Shakeel (20 innings)

Shakeel equalled Saeed Ahmed’s record from 1959 during the first Sri Lanka Test, getting to his first 1,000 Test runs in his 20th innings.

Bangladesh - Mominul Haque (21 innings)

In November 2014, Mominul Haque scored his 1,000th Test run against Zimbabwe in only 21 innings.

Sri Lanka - Roy Dias, Michael Vandort, Dhananjaya de Silva (23 innings)

The record is held by three batters, with de Silva recently joining the club in 2018 after scoring his first 1,000 Test runs in 23 innings.

Zimbabwe - Dave Houghton (24 innings)

Against New Zealand in 1996, Houghton became the fastest to 1,000 Test runs from his country, in only 24 innings.
