India wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh equalled the record for the fastest half-century in women's T20Is during a scintillating knock against West Indies on Thursday (December 19).
West Indies won the toss in the third T20I at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, and elected to field first. They made the perfect start, as Deandra Dottin knocked over Uma Chetry for a two-ball duck in the very first over.
Thereafter, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues set about rebuilding the innings at pace. Skipper Mandhana set the tone in the Powerplay with three consecutive fours in the third over, and three fours and a six in the fourth. The pair put on 98 runs in 55 balls before Rodrigues was caught off the bowling of Afy Fletcher.

Ghosh, and India, create new record
Ghosh came to the crease after Mandhana fell in the 15th over. She got off to a flyer, hitting Dottin over mid off for six and past point for four. Off her third ball, Ghosh survived a catching chance in the deep to pick up four more. By the end of the 18th over, she was on 31 off 13 balls, having taken India to 185-3.
Opposition skipper Hayley Matthews was hit for consecutive sixes in the 19th, and the first ball of the final over saw Ghosh lace her fifth six to reach a half-century off just 18 balls – equalling the women's T20I record held by Sophie Devine and Phoebe Litchfield.
She was caught off the penultimate ball of the final over for 54 off 21, but by then Ghosh had ensured India posted their highest-ever total in women's T20I cricket, breaking their previous record of 201-5. A boundary from Sajeevan Sajana took the final total to 217-4.
