Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar feels there will not be any grand farewell for MS Dhoni, as he expects the iconic wicketkeeper-batsman to silently withdraw himself from the game.
“Dhoni isn’t the kind who would make a big announcement, he’s likely to slowly and silently bid farewell to the game,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying by Dainik Jagran, a Hindi-language daily in India.
Dhoni last featured for India in July 2019, scoring 50 in their semi-final defeat to New Zealand at the World Cup. His career has been in limbo since; the 38-year-old hasn’t played a single competitive game in the last eight months.

Plans of a much-awaited comeback in the Indian Premier League, as skipper of Chennai Super Kings, is now in disarray after the IPL 2020 was postponed owing to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
Ravi Shastri, the India coach, had recently admitted that Dhoni stood a chance of reclaiming his spot in the T20 set-up if he does well in the IPL. Reports also suggested Sunil Joshi, the newly appointed chief of selectors, was open to the possibility of Dhoni returning to international cricket, provided he had a fruitful season for CSK.

Gavaskar, however, feels that the team has already moved past the idea of bringing back Dhoni.
“Undoubtedly, I would want to see him in the team for the T20 World Cup, but I don’t see it happening. The team has moved on,” he added.
