West Indies opener Evin Lewis did not open the innings in the third T20I against India after the was stretchered off the field at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, December 11.
The incident occurred in the 12th over of the Indian innings, when KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were going all guns blazing in their 135-run stand for the first wicket. Rahul cut Kesrick Williams square of the wicket, and Lewis, fielding in the deep, rushed to his left to gather the ball.
However, having thrown the ball back to the middle, Lewis went down in pain, and it was evident he needed treatment. It seemed as though his foot was stuck to the ground as he ran for the ball, and a fair portion of the outfield was dislodged, presumably jarring his knee.

With India posting 240/3, thanks to blazing half-centuries from Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, West Indies could have used Lewis’ big-hitting abilities.
As it turned out, the opening partnership between King and Simmons didn’t take off. King was dismissed in the second over, holing out off Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 5, and Simmons followed suit in the next over, becoming Mohammed Shami’s first T20I wicket since 2016.
