England beat Australia 5-0 in their ODI series, including a world record victory of 481-6 in the third game at Trent Bridge. Next up for England is India in a three-match ODI series – starting at happy hunting ground Trent Bridge – and they’ll be aiming to continue where they left off against Australia.
The only change England have been forced to make is Sam Curran coming into the squad for his brother Tom due to injury. Skipper Eoin Morgan is just 42 runs shy of passing 5,500 runs in ODI cricket for England.
England are 19-15 up in matches played between the sides on their home soil, though India do have a better overall record in ODI cricket against England.
But the hosts are in dominant form at home and are seen as slight favourites with bookmakers too – albeit that the heat might actually suit the visitors more than Morgan’s side. England will also be looking to retain their position at the top of the pile in the ICC rankings for ODIs, after overtaking India back in May. India have made no secret of their desire to reclaim top spot but the only way they can do this is by winning the series 3-0 and England will be looking to ensure that this doesn’t happen.
It could be a battle of a great batting side against a strong bowling outfit in the ODIs according to former India captain Sourav Ganguly. He pointed out that England are a great batting unit but feels that the weaker side of their game is in the bowling department. However, the England bowlers could use his comments as great motivation starting at Trent Bridge as they look to show the world that they’re back with a bang and capable of following up their superb 5-0 whitewash of Australia.
