England have drafted in Craig Overton for the forthcoming ODI series against New Zealand after Liam Plunkett was forced to withdraw with a hamstring injury.
The Somerset quick made his Test bow against Australia in the 2017/18 Ashes series, looking at home in the international arena before his tour was curtailed after sustaining a fractured rib while batting at Perth in the third Test.
Plunkett returned to international action against the Kiwis in Wellington last week but aggravated an injury sustained in an ODI in Sydney last month – this time it’s been diagnosed as a grade one tear and he will now be heading back to England.
Despite getting called up for the 2015 ODI series against the Kiwis along with his brother, Jamie, Overton has yet to play an ODI. He was also included in England T20I squad to play South Africa but was not selected for any of the three encounters.
