England have announced their white-ball squads for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Australia.
Left-arm quick David Willey has been left out of both squads despite earning the Player of the Series award in the 2-1 ODI series win over Ireland earlier this month. Marking his first England appearances since missing out on last year’s World Cup, Willey took eight wickets in three matches – including his first international five-for – and averaged 98 with the bat.
England’s Test stars this summer have been included in the squads: Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Mark Wood and Jofra Archer have been selected for both formats. England Test captain Joe Root is in the ODI squad but remains out of the T20I set-up.
Jason Roy will not be fit for the start of the three-match T20I series – which begins on September 4 and will be played entirely behind closed doors at the Ageas Bowl – due to a left side strain but will remain in the bio-secure bubble in the hopes of proving his fitness for the ODIs. The three-match ODI series – beginning on September 11 – will be played at Emirates Old Trafford.
