India last won a Test series in England way back in 2007, featuring in three more tours to the country (2011, 2014, 2018) since. Virat Kohli’s team had lost the series 1-4 when they last toured the country in 2018, and have just managed two wins since 2011 in the country.
On their last overseas tour, India defeated Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which ended in January this year.
Injury updates:
The India contingent in England has been plagued by injuries, though, with Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar along with standby Avesh Khan already ruled out of the series.
England, too, will be reeling with the effects of major absence in the lead-up after star all-rounder Ben Stokes made himself unavailable for the Test series, opting to take a break from cricket.
This will be the first series for both teams in the second edition of the World Test Championship. While England failed to qualify for the final of the first cycle of the WTC, India went down against New Zealand in the summit clash.
