The ECB has released a five-stage roadmap detailing the return of recreational cricket in England this summer.
The country is currently in step three of the roadmap, which involves outdoor training in groups of six with social distancing measures in place.
The next step would allow for matches to be played, but with “COVID-19 adaptations” for both adult and junior cricket. Social distancing measures would be in place, with the ECB stating that “forms of cricket can be played while respecting social distancing”.
Matches at this step would be in shorter formats so more can take place. The use of hospitality and indoor facilities would be restricted.
Step five would see all formats, leagues and competitions return and would involve the removal of all social distancing measures.
“We will move into Step 4 of the roadmap when UK Government guidance allows and when it is medically safe to do so,” the ECB said.
On the subject of step five, the ECB admitted that “at this time, it is hard to see us getting to this stage this summer”.
The ECB will offer guidance on the return of recreational cricket to Wales after the Welsh government reviews lockdown restrictions on June 18.
