The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squads for the 2024 Duleep Trophy, starting in September.

The Duleep Trophy, starting from September 5, will mark the beginning of India’s domestic red-ball season. A panel under BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar named the squads for the upcoming tournament.

With the zonal format scrapped, four teams – India A (led by Shubman Gill), India B (Abhimanyu Easwaran), India C (Ruturaj Gaikwad), India D (Shreyas Iyer) – will be vying for the trophy across six matches until September 19.

Apart from the four captains, several other India international players – including, but not restricted to – KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh – will feature in the tournament.

The move is in line with Jay Shah’s stern warning to ensure centrally contracted players take part in domestic tournaments. The Duleep Trophy will be significant for Ishan Kishan in reviving his international ambitions. He was omitted from India’s central contract, along with Iyer, for missing domestic matches despite Shah’s directive. Kishan’s last T20I appearance for India was in November last year.

Earlier reports claimed that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma might play in the tournament to prepare for the Bangladesh Test series from September 19. However, the duo have been rested, as have been Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin.
