Dom Bess has extended his current deal with Somerset for an additional two years, committing his future until the end of the 2020 season.
The 20-year-old off-spinner has made a great start to his county career since taking 6-21 in his debut County Championship game in 2016 and Somerset will be glad to have sealed the deal.
Although he played in just nine County Championship matches in 2017, Bess finished as the 11th highest wicket-taker in Division One, with his 36 wickets coming at an average of 23.41 as Somerset avoided relegation on the final day of the season.

“I’m really excited about the next three years and I can’t wait for the season to start,” Bess said after signing the extension. “It means a massive amount to me to play for Somerset and I’m really grateful to everyone who has given me the opportunity to get where I am.”
“I love this club and there are so many great people here. It’s something very special to walk out on to the field here and the fans are awesome. Hopefully I can push on now and help the club to be successful,” he added.

Andy Hurry, Somerset’s director of cricket, said: “Dom has demonstrated that he is a player of great potential. This has recently been recognised with his selection in both the four-day and one-day ECB Lions squads that will tour the West Indies this winter. We are really pleased that one of the most exciting young spinners in the country has committed his future to the club”
Bess, who has spent the winter with the England Lions, will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow 20-year-old spinner Mason Crane, who made his England Test debut earlier this month.
