Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals in the final of the 2023 tournament. At the end of the group stage, Delhi were at the top of the table and secured automatic qualification for the final. However, they were beaten by 72 runs in the final after Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 60* and Hayley Matthews took three wickets for five runs.

For the upcoming season, Delhi released Tara Norris as well as Jasia Akhtar and Sneha Deepthi. While Norris starred by taking the first five-for in the tournament and allows an extra overseas spot as an associate player, head coach Jonathan Batty has explained that the franchise wanted to focus on domestic Indian seamers in 2024.

The biggest new signing DC made at the auction was Australia all-rounder Annabel Sutherland. She was bought by the franchise for INR 2 crore, the most expensive overseas signing in the auction. Sutherland was in superb international form in the Ashes last year, and scored 288 runs in the WBBL, also taking 23 wickets in the competition. She also captained the Melbourne Stars in Meg Lanning’s absence, Lanning also being the captain of Delhi Capitals.

The franchise also picked up uncapped Indian wicketkeeper, Aparna Mondal in the auction for 10 lakh. Their final signing was uncapped allrounder Ashwani Kumari.
