Delhi Capitals edited their social media post announcing the non-renewal of head coach Ricky Ponting's contract to indicate that the decision to part ways was the franchise's.

Delhi Capitals posted on X (formerly Twitter) today (July 13), to announce that Ponting would not return as coach for IPL 2025. The decision came after a relatively poor year for the franchise in the 2024 edition, where they failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the competition on net run rate.

The post featured a graphic with a picture of Ponting, stating that he was 'moving on' as head coach, with the caption "Thank you Ricky". It wasn't clear if the decision was made at the franchise's side, or Ponting's.

However, shortly after the post was originally published, the caption was edited to read "After 7 seasons, Delhi Capitals has decided to part ways with Ricky Ponting. It's been a great journey, Coach! Thank you for everything."

The edit to the post clarifies that the decision to part ways was the franchise's decision rather than Ponting's. His contract ended this year.

Earlier, reports emerged in the Bengali daily Aajkaal with Sourav Ganguly, advisor to Delhi Capitals, quoted as saying Ponting "won't be kept on as coach from next season onwards".

Ganguly was quoted as saying: "Ponting hasn't been able to move the team forward in his tenure of seven years."

Delhi Capitals have never won the IPL, with their best performance coming in 2020 when they lost in the final to Mumbai Indians. They have not made the knockout stage of the tournament since 2021.
