The first leg of the inaugural Dafabet African Premier League (APL) was set to begin in March 2021 – here are the TV and live streaming details for where you can watch the action unfold.
Unfortunately, an outbreak of COVID-19 in Kenya led to the tournament’s postponement. Dates for the resumption of the tournament are yet to be confirmed.
The tournament will be held entirely in Nairobi in Kenya and features six teams from the east African country, though T20 specialists from other African nations will also take part. 33 matches will be played in the competition; the details for further legs of the tournament are not yet confirmed.
The teams contesting the league, which will be played at Nairobi’s Ruaraka Sports Club, are Mombasa Rhinos, Eldoret Elephants, Nairobi Lions, Kisumu Pythons, Nakuru Leopards and Thika Hippos.
Kenya has a rich cricketing history, having caused a shock by reaching the semi-final of the 2003 Cricket World Cup.
Where to watch the Dafabet African Premier League 2021 – TV and live streaming
Dreamcatchers Films, an Indian-based production company, and Blonde Ambitions have acquired the rights to the competition, with the latter doing so in the UK only. However, the matches will be shown exclusively to UK viewers through revolutionary sports broadcasting platform Recast.
Recast is a direct-to-customer video platform that combines the ability to watch the best sporting action from any mobile device and the potential to earn in-app credits called ‘Casts’ through microtransactions.
Recast will make it easy for cricket fans to watch the event with no up-front or ongoing subscription costs. Instead, fans are able to pay for the match they want to watch, when they want to watch it, as well as having the opportunity to earn in-app credits, through watching ads which subsidises or removes viewing costs.
The APL will be the first live tournament to be broadcast on platform, which launched in beta earlier this year. While the APL is Recast’s first foray into cricket, there are other rights holders who have gone direct-to-consumer via the medium, including Hibernian FC and the World Parkour Championship. Fans in the UK can sign up and watch the APL here. – https://bit.ly/2Pr6Stv
Viewers that watch the APL matches on Recast will also have the chance to win a slice of sporting history. Every viewer will be entered into a draw to win digital moments from the series including the first ball, first boundary and first wicket, and will be authenticated with a Non-Fungible Token (NFT).
