Sri Lanka have announced their 15-member squad for the CWC Qualifier, the qualifying tournament for the 2023 ODI World Cup. The qualifiers will be played in Zimbabwe with warm-up games starting on June 13, while the main tournament starts on June 18.

Sri Lanka will be competing with nine other teams in the qualifiers in an attempt to finish in the top two and qualify for the ODI World Cup later this year.

Sri Lanka have left out veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews from their squad for the qualifiers while they have included the young sensation Matheesha Pathirana.

Mathews was recalled for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan that concluded recently, but he didn’t feature in the last two games of the series and was replaced by Sadeera Samarawickrama, who performed well and has retained his spot for the World Cup Qualifiers.

Another veteran, Dimuth Karunaratne, who had been recalled for the Afghanistan series after more than two years, has managed to keep his place in the qualifiers squad after scoring two half-centuries in the last two ODIs.

As far as the bowling department is concerned, it bears a more or less familiar look with three experienced seamers in Lahiru Kumara, Dushmantha Chameera, and Kasun Rajitha, along with the newbie Pathirana who recently made his ODI debut against Afghanistan.

Wanindu Hasarana and Maheesh Theekshana will lead the spin department, with Dusan Hemantha, the leg spinner who made his debut in the recently concluded Afghanistan series, to provide backup.
