Former Worcestershire cricketer Alex Hepburn has been sentenced to five years in jail for raping a sleeping woman at a flat in Diglis.

Hepburn, 23, had denied both counts of rape relating to the incident that took place on April 1, 2017 in a fellow teammate’s room, insisting that the encounter had been consensual.

Following a retrial, he was found guilty on one count of oral rape. He was cleared on the second count of rape.

The jury had heard of a sexual conquest game that Hepburn had set up on a WhatsApp group where members tried to sleep with as many women as possible.

At the sentencing at Hereford Crown Court, Judge Jim Tindal called Hepburn’s actions “appalling” and “arrogant”, describing his ploy to sleep with as many women as possible as a “pathetic, sexist game.”
