ICC unlikely to set up a fund for Afghanistan women's cricket
A Forbes report outlined on Tuesday that the ICC is unlikely to set aside a slice of revenue in order to fund an Afghanistan women's team. After the Taliban took over the country in 2021, several women's cricketers fled the country, with many finding their way to Australia. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) therefore no longer has a women's team, and there have been calls to reduce the board's ICC funding as a result.
Earlier this month, the former Afghanistan women's team players sent a public plea to the ICC, to set aside funds for a refugee team. However, it appears that this course of action will not take place, and the report from Forbes says a major reason is the high cost required to fund the Afghanistan men's team.

Women's T20 World Cup set for rapid expansion
In a press release issued on Monday (July 22), the ICC confirmed that plans were in place to expand the Women's T20 World Cup in quick succession. The tournament, which is currently contested by 10 teams, will have 12 participants in 2026 before going up to 16 in the 2030 edition.
The ICC called this part of their "commitment to equity between the men’s and women’s games". The Men's T20 World Cup was expanded to 20 teams in the 2024 edition, but it appears there is still a long way to go before the women's tournament is the same size.
Afghanistan to play New Zealand in Greater Noida - reports
According to the Times of India, the Afghanistan men's team are set to 'host' New Zealand in Greater Noida in a one-off Test in September. The BCCI has reportedly given the green signal for the match to take place. It wll be the first time Afghanistan and New Zealand meet in red-ball cricket.
Following this Test, New Zealand are scheduled to play India in a three-Test series in October-November with matches in Bengaluru, Pune and Mumbai. It has also been reported that three locations in India — Greater Noida, Kanpur and Lucknow — have been allotted as 'homes' for Afghanistan. They do not host matches in Afghanistan due to security concerns following a takeover of the country by the Taliban in 2021.
