Colin Ackermann has sealed a fresh three-year contract with Leicestershire, with the new extension set to keep him at the club until the end of 2023.
“I am very pleased to have extended my contract by another three years,” Ackermann said. “I have really enjoyed my time here at the Fischer County Ground over the last three years, so long may that continue.”
The South Africa-born all-rounder, who captains the county’s white-ball teams, penned the extension after a fruitful season, in which he aggregated 1445 runs and took 29 wickets across formats. He also became the first bowler ever to capture seven wickets in a T20 game, a feat he achieved with his spell of 7-18 against Birmingham Bears, in their Blast game in August.

Apart from his T20 exploits, Ackermann garnered 428 runs at 61.14 in the one-day format, and a further 675 runs in Division Two of the County Championship. The prolific season earned him a maiden national call-up with Netherlands in October; later in the same month, he was a member of the Dutch side that won the T20 World Cup Qualifier in Dubai, also sealing a spot in next year’s 20-over World Cup in Australia.

“There have been quite a few [personal highlights] in the T20 side of things,” Ackermann said. “We have definitely shown that we can beat the top teams in our North Group, which is fantastic to see.”
With youngsters such as Harry Dearden and Sam Evans also sealing recent contract extensions, Ackermann believes that Leicestershire have the arsenal to bounce back in the coming seasons, having finished at the bottom in all three formats in 2019.
“We are a young squad,” Ackermann said, “and it is fantastic to see the local and younger guys to have that opportunity to make a name for themselves.”
